Supporting our future master builders
Broad is pleased to have again partnered with Curtin University in Western Australia as part of its tertiary 'Capstone’ Unit, which forms part of the Construction Management degree program.
The purpose of the unit is to provide students with an understanding of the tendering process for a construction project within a real industry setting and to allow them to apply the principles learned throughout the unit to a live construction project managed by Broad.
"It's been a privilege for us to take part in the development of our future master builders and we look forward to providing our ongoing expertise and support to the partnership." Regional Manager – WA Martin Wisker
The 12-week semester was focused around the Kinross College project, with topics including:
- Understanding scope of works.
- Bid planning and methodology.
- Programming and pricing.
- Creating and presenting submission documentation.
Weekly lectures were given by members of Broad’s Pre Contracts team for each of the subject headings.
The unit also provides the students with the opportunity to visit the live site and to see how these learnings are physically applied. It concluded with a final submission of a ‘mock’ tender for the project, including presenting in front of a panel at our offices in Perth.
The tender panel, which included Regional Manager, WA Martin Wisker and Pre Contracts Manager Ed Dunne, was impressed with the understanding and enthusiasm the students had acquired.
"The feedback received from the experience has been extremely positive and it’s been a privilege for us to take part in the development of our future builders and we look forward to further developing the course," Martin added.
