Brisbane City Council awarded Broad the contract to construct a brand new aquatic centre located in Bracken Ridge 20km North West of Brisbane’s CBD.
Open public tenders for the project were called in late 2014. Through a number of value management sessions, and drawing on previous experience, including the successful delivery of Colmslie Reserve Aquatic Centre, the Council awarded Broad the works in early February 2015.
The project scope comprised:
- A 25 metre, six-lane, heated outdoor pool with accessible ramp
- A 25 metre heated indoor pool with accessible ramp
- Kiosk
- Change rooms with showers and toilets; and
- A car park.
The facility also includes a large grass leisure area, shaded seating areas, a cafe and services, and dedicated shared parking.
Before works commenced on the aquatic centre, modifications were required to an existing animal shelter. Works to reconfigure the animal shelter were followed by construction of the centre.
The Broad team handed over the centre on 9 February, three weeks earlier than the contractual completion date. The centre was officially opened on 14 February 2016 by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.
